Efterklang's new album, titled Things We Have in Common (City Slang, 2024), closes the cycle that began with their 2019 album Altid Sammen and continued with Windflowers in 2021. These three albums have explored a simpler and more inclusive form of expression, addressing themes such as human connection, the relationship between humans and nature, and collective spirituality. Rune Mølgaard, who co-founded Efterklang but left the band after the Parades album in 2007, has returned to collaborate on this new project, co-writing 7 of the 9 songs. During his absence, Rune joined the Mormon Church, but eventually left the faith, which deeply influenced the album's creative process. Things We Have in Common also includes collaborations with musicians such as Beirut, Mabe Fratti and the Southern Denmark Girls' Choir.
