Alain Pérez is a Cuban musician born on April 20, 1977, in Manaca Iznaga, near Trinidad, in the province of Sancti Spíritus. The son of composer Gradelio Pérez, he began his musical journey at a young age, performing as a singer in the children’s group Cielito Lindo in Cienfuegos. He studied classical guitar and piano at the Manuel Saumell Conservatory of Music, later continuing his education at the National School of Art in Havana, graduating in 1996 with top honors.
Throughout his career, Alain has worked with prominent figures such as Chucho Valdés, joining Irakere as a keyboardist and singer, and with Isaac Delgado as bassist and musical director. His versatility has led him to collaborate with international artists like Celia Cruz, Enrique Morente, and notably Paco de Lucía, with whom he worked for ten years as a bassist. In addition to being an outstanding bassist, he is also a percussionist, pianist, singer, composer, producer, and arranger.
In 2021, he won the Latin Grammy for Best Traditional Tropical Album for Cha Cha Chá: Homenaje a lo tradicional, in collaboration with Issac Delgado and the Orquesta Aragón. This May 31st, Alain Pérez will present his new album Bingo in a special show that promises to be a celebration of his career and musical innovation.
