Dutchman Jasper Verhulst's thing with Anatolian rock of the 60s, Eastern psychedelia of the 70s and Golden Horn techno-pop of the 80s is absolute and true Turkish passion. After a gig in Istanbul while playing in Jacco Gardner's band, Verhulst discovered the sound of Moğollar, Erkin Koray, Ali Ekber Çiçek, Bariş Manço and Selda Bağcan and saw the light for ever: he had to form a band like Altin Gün to give free rein to his new musical obsessions.
After four albums fine-tuning that vintage rock-funk that sounds like something out of an Istanbul souk, everybody now knows that Verhulst and his troupe of musicians is not the whim of some crazy Europeans: it is a moving adventure made with love and respect. Altin Gün will be performing at Barcelona's Sala Apolo on 12th September.
