Having established herself as one of the most impressive figures on the current music scene in just a few years, Sarah McCoy comes to Barcelona for the first time to present her second album, "High Priestess", live at Caprichos de Apolo 2023.
American singer, pianist and composer whose deep and powerful voice reveals painful cracks, McCoy made the leap to the European jazz and blues scene with "Blood Siren" (2019), her intimate and confessional debut album backed by pianist Chilly Gonzales and praised by the French press.
In the new work, the accomplished Paris-based singer-songwriter broadens her compositional field beyond the acoustic piano, and incorporates modern, electronic and even futuristic sounds, ready to be revealed to new audiences.
Produced by Gonzales himself (known for the intimate touch of his Solo Piano albums and his collaborations with Jarvis Cocker, Feist, Drake or Daft Punk) and veteran producer Renaud Letang (Feist, Keren Ann, Charlotte Gainsbourg), "High Priestess" is a stylistic turning point in which Sarah McCoy expands her boundaries beyond the blues.
However, she maintains the visceral writing that travelled with her from New Orleans and continues to amaze with her characteristic "diva-lion" voice. If you close your eyes, you can hear hints of Nina Simone, Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse.
"Weaponize Me", "Go Blind" and "Sorry for You" are the first singles from the new album that will be released the 27th of January and which she will present at La (2) de Apolo the 11th of April.
For fans of: Amy Winehouse, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Selah Sue, Hailey Tuck, Indra Rios-Moore, Kaz Hawkins
