Well on their way to a three-decade career, Zachary Cole Smith and his band DIIV can say that their music has perfectly captured the spirit of their time not once but twice. The first time, at the dawn of their career, when they released their debut album, Oshin. It was 2012 and, in a way, they perfectly embodied that prototype of a band of fuzzy guitars made in Captured Tracks where Wild Nothing, Beach Fossils and Craft Spells also had their space. The second, today, when a whole new generation of bands has infiltrated TikTok and Spotify's viral playlists with shoegaze and dream-pop sounds. It's not an exaggeration: for Jane Remover, Hotline TNT and Full Body 2, the figure of Zachary Cole Smith means something like what the figure of Kevin Shields means for Smith himself. The cycle of distortion.
DIIV now ratify this generational status with Frog in Boiling Water, their first album in five years. They will present it on 25th November in Madrid (Sala But) and 26th November in Barcelona (Sala Apolo) to keep the distortion cycle going.
