Like that post-adolescent who sees the light on his six-month Erasmus, Norwegian artist Erlend Øye also saw the light on a trip to Sicily. The flash was such that, pushed by his somewhat nomadic nature, he ended up moving to Syracuse with his mother in 2012: he bought a house, started hitchhiking to the beach, hanging in the taverns, getting in with the locals. A seed was planted that would soon bear fruit. Once he had already published his first song in Italian, La Prima Estate, Erlend Øye turned his Mediterranean residence into a meeting point for musicians coming not only from various parts of Sicily but also from all over the world. Anyone who could play an instrument was invited to spontaneous evenings in which mainly Italian, Cuban, Brazilian and Colombian popular songs were covered.
There and then, almost unintentionally, Erlend Øye & La Comitiva was born, the most Mediterranean project of the multifaceted member of Kings of Convenience, who has ended up sharing this adventure with Luigi, Stefano and Marco, three of the musicians who met in those at home sessions. Next spring, they will bring this spirit to Barcelona and Madrid: on 24th April they will perform at La (2) de Apolo and on 25th April at the Copernico.
