As if it were a statement of intent, New Zealanders LEISURE set course last May by releasing the single Welcome to the Mood. A song title that largely explains the musical philosophy of this quintet: more than a sound, what best defines their proposal is a state of mind. A mood. Their thing is pure escapism that doesn’t follow any calendar. Whenever it plays, their soul-funk guided by Djeisan Suskov’s falsetto automatically creates a carefree, holiday-like atmosphere. Pop to listen to in a hammock since 2018.
LEISURE share a musical mood with other projects settled in eternal spiritual peace, such as Parcels and Nick Murphy. Pure hakuna matata over a smooth disco pulse. Could it be a Southern Hemisphere thing?
