Deafheaven's evolution as a band can be measured by how George Clarke has modulated his voice, from guttural roars to melodious soaring. A journey from post-metal to dream pop, punctuated by bursts of blast beats and shoegaze cascades, which began more than a decade ago and still has a long way to go.
The latest stop on this journey is Lonely People With Power, an album released last March that confirms the channelling of their electric magma towards a less abrasive and more ecstatic intensity; a new quantum leap by the authors of Sunbather and Ordinary Corrupt Human Love, albums that taught us that metal could sound expansive and blindingly beautiful.
