Spiral in a Straight Line. The title of Touché Amoré's new album, their first since 2020, could well be a metaphor for their own identity as a band. On a historically straight path like the one of post-hardcore, where there are often arrows in the ground marking the route for bands to follow, the Californians have done their own thing. Even now that they have joined forces with Ross Robinson, producer-legend of post-hardcore and other thunderous genres, Touché Amoré are still a free verse. The fact that their path has not been in a straight line, but has had melodic, emo and pop-punk detours, has not ceased to broaden their universe. And with it, their audience. On Spiral in a Straight Line they continue to do so: outsiders like Julien Baker and Lou Barlow collaborate on the album.
