Apolo in collaboration with Liveurope, the European network supporting concert venues in the promotion of emerging talent, hosted the Portuguese Pedro Mafama for an artistic residency from 13 to 16 December 2021.
For four days, the fado-trap singer had the opportunity to collaborate with the Catalan artist with Berber roots Ikram Bouloum and the producer MANS O, with the support of the Institut Ramon Llull (IRLL) through its support programme for Catalan and Balearic artists.
Thanks to L'Estudi's team, equipment and facilities, the artists worked on their music together, explored each other's repertoire, dialogued through their own musical styles and, at the same time, abandoned them to find themselves in new sounds, places and cultures.
In this mini-documentary in interview format, Pedro, Ikram and MANS O tell us about their musical proposals, how they approached the creative process, as well as their first impressions, expectations and challenges:
The exchange bore fruit with this live performance produced by MANS O at L'Estudi during the residency. A mix of Arabic sounds, electronic music and Portuguese tradition that was premiered on 21 April on our YouTube channel and that you can see here:
With this cross-border mobility initiative, Liveurope and Apolo want to keep contributing to strengthening the ties between European artists, music and diversity, after almost two seasons interrupted by Covid-19.
Artists are anxious to get back on the road and venues are equally eager to present international acts on their stages again.
