The Liberty Crown Brocheta by Miralda will preside over Apolo's hall

The long-established and renowned multidisciplinary Antoni Miralda reinterprets his artwork Liberty Crown Brocheta, originally created for the New York restaurant El Internacional Tapas Bar & Restaurant (1984-1986), to preside over the hall of Apolo, as the last creation joining the Art Meets Apolo project.

This Crown of Liberty, made of skewers with food, was first created in 1985: exactly 40 years ago Miralda and chef Montse Guillén called upon the city of New York to crown the façade of the restaurant under the slogan “Tribeca Coronation - A Gift from Miss Liberty”.

The piece intertwines history and art, food and power, in a game of proportions where the rays of the crown are transformed into luminous skewers of tomatoes, peppers, corn, potatoes and pineapples; fruits and vegetables that have been part of the Columbian exchange.

Miralda's artistic career is characterized by the creation of collaborative and multidisciplinary art projects, interventions in public space and anthropological interest, food and ceremonial culture, just like the project FoodCultura born in 2000.

Art Meets Apolo is an exhibition project born in 2023 that aims to unite clubbing and art through the eyes of different Barcelona artists. In the 2024-2025 season, the project has incorporated the works of Alba Rihe, Sejal Parekh, Milica Lukic, Miroslav Perković and Andrei Warren.

The proposal has been conceived and coordinated together with LAB36 gallery and Senda Gallery, bringing together two worlds and their respective artists, audiences, ways of working, knowledge and experiences with a clear and common benefit: local culture.
