Chico Trujillo

Concert of Chico Trujillo in Barcelona - 5th July 2025

Cumbia is the compass of Chico Trujillo's tireless journey. In their twenty-five-year history, the group has been heralded intercontinentally as The Ambassadors of Chilombiana Cumbia, The Cumbia Machine, or The Superheroes of Cumbia from Chile, the country at the southernmost tip of South America where they were born in 1999. Born in the port of Valparaíso and led by singer Aldo Asenjo, known as Macha, the group has brought freshness and a new twist to cumbia, a musical genre that until then had been frowned upon and hidden, and has contributed to the recovery of the popular celebration that this rhythm inspires wherever it is heard.

With nine albums recorded since 2001, Chico Trujillo has built a repertoire that includes favorite songs from the Latin American dance scene and incorporates renowned compositions of his own, such as "Loca", "Gran pecador", "Fuera de mi vida" and "Reina de Todas las Fiestas". And the stage is his natural environment, having performed every year since 2002 on European and American tours, with the only interruption being the 2020 pandemic. Chico Trujillo has played in Russia and the Sahara Desert; in the most prestigious jazz club in San Francisco; in the New York Museum of Art; in Brazil, on the streets of Paris along the Seine; and in Hamburg, declared the group's second port of call. They proudly hold the title of world tour champions.

Along these paths, they've also found party companions like La Delio Valdez from Buenos Aires, Son Rompe Pera from Mexico, and Cumbia Chicharra from Marseille; and they've shared stages with artists as diverse as the Peruvian band Los Mirlos in Hamburg, the Argentine band Kumbia Queers in London, and the Nigerian musician Seun Kuti in Valparaíso. It's a brotherhood of which Chico Trujillo is a key member, always faithful to the dance and travel motto that the more feet move, the smoother the road.
