A vibrant journey through a genre born of Afro-Cuban rhythms—mambo, guaracha, guaguancó—fused with the drive of New York jazz, and one that found its second homeland in Cali, Colombia. With historical rigor, the film traces the musical voyage back and forth between Havana, New York, and Cali, showing how salsa became a shared language across cultures. It then dives into daily life in Cali, portraying dancers, collectors, young enthusiasts, and veteran masters who keep the tradition alive in cabarets, competitions, and on the streets. Featuring testimonies from icons such as Rubén Blades, Henry Fiol, and Willie Rosario, it celebratesthe popular resilience of a genre that remains identity, passion, and community.
Cast: Rubén Blades, Henry Fiol, Willie Rosario, Angel Lebron, Johnny Rodriguez, Luis Eduardo Mulato, Samuel Formell, Francia Elena, Yuleissy Montano, Kevin Santiago Quiñones.
Afro-Caribbean Body Music to sweat and enjoy.
As Chica Acosta, Mónica Gómez Vesga deconstructs the Afro-Caribbean and tropical rhythms of her native Colombia, blending them with house, breaks, dembow, mutant perreo, and other modern club sounds. From Barcelona, she creates warm and vibrant atmospheres designed for the body, always with a Latin touch but open to the exploration of multiple genres and sonic landscapes.
Her energy has conquered leading stages such as Sónar, BBK Live, and Embassat, establishing her as one of the most distinctive voices in the global and club music scene. Beyond the DJ booth, she brings her curiosity to the airwaves with two radio shows: La Candela Viva, which explores the African roots of Caribbean music and its power as a tool of resistance and celebration; and Llora Nena Llora, her show on Canino FM where she explores the intersection between music and poetry.
