Diablada: Frente Cumbiero + Indus + Julieta Garay (La Filosa) + Hija de la Coca

The first edition of La Diablada brings together music rooted in specific territories yet unwilling to stand still.

From Bogotá, Frente Cumbiero, led by Mario Galeano, has spent years pushing Colombian cumbia into the realms of dub, psychedelia, and experimentation, establishing itself as one of the defining projects of the new Latin American cumbia movement.

Indus, led by Barranquilla-born producer Óscar Alford, bridges the traditional sounds of Colombia’s Caribbean and Pacific regions with synthesizers, Afro-Colombian percussion, and club-focused electronic music.

From Barcelona, Julieta Garay (La Filosa) embodies the connection with the Argentine diaspora and a cumbia scene built around the Santa Fe accordion tradition, cumbia villera, and its intersections with urban sounds. Meanwhile, Hija de la Coca takes that journey directly to the dance floor, moving seamlessly between cumbia, reggaetón, dembow, and Latin club sounds.

A night shaped by roots, diaspora, cultural fusion, and dance. Colombia, Argentina, and Barcelona come together on the same dance floor to open the very first chapter of La Diablada.

With a long and successful career, Frente Cumbiero has established itself as one of the leading forces in the exploration of cumbia’s sonic identity in Latin America. Led by Colombian songwriter and producer Mario Galeano Toro (also a founding member of Ondatrópica and Los Pirañas), Frente Cumbiero is widely recognized as one of the driving forces behind Colombia’s new cumbia movement.

Among the band’s most notable live appearances are performances at New York’s MoMA, Festival Estéreo Picnic, Roskilde Festival, WOMAD, WOMADelaide, WOMEX, Sónar, and Fuji Rock. They have toured extensively across Latin America, Africa, Europe, the United States, Russia, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. Their vinyl releases have been published in the UK, the US, Spain, Japan, and Mexico.

Frente Cumbiero’s discography includes acclaimed collaborations with legendary musicians such as Mad Professor (UK, 2011), Kronos Quartet (US, 2017 and 2019), Orquesta La Delio Valdez (Argentina, 2018), and Minyo Crusaders (Japan, 2020), continually expanding the boundaries of cumbia and Latin folk music.

As a live band, Frente Cumbiero performs as a quartet, delivering a powerful tropical sound designed for the dance floor through a combination of wind instruments, live percussion, and electronic textures.

In 2020, they released the critically acclaimed EP Minyo Cumbiero: From Tokyo to Bogotá with the Japanese group Minyo Crusaders, alongside their second album, Cera Perdida. Both records were released across Europe, the UK, Latin America, and Japan.

Active for more than a decade and moving far beyond the idea of cumbia as a passing trend, Frente Cumbiero remain true followers of the guacharaca’s call.

Experiencing an Indus live show means diving into the heart of Bogotá’s vibrant contemporary music scene through an electrifying fusion of electronic music and live Afro-Colombian percussion.

The duo, formed by Barranquilla-born producer Oscar Alford and percussionist Franklin Tejedor, originally from San Basilio de Palenque, delivers an intense combination of acid synthesizers and Afro-Colombian rhythms that irresistibly draws audiences into dance and trance.

Hija de la Coca is a Peruvian DJ and multidisciplinary artist based in Barcelona. Her artistic practice emerges from an exploration of Latin American sounds, rhythms, and memories, blending elements of her Andean heritage with contemporary electronic music.

As a migrant, her work is also shaped by the experience of living between cultures, cities, and identities. Through her DJ sets and event curation, she creates spaces for connection where music becomes a way to celebrate, share stories, and bring people together.

Her musical selections move fluidly between the ancestral and the contemporary, always seeking to create experiences with a distinct identity that engage both the space and the people who inhabit it.
