Come and See. With almost a threat, or perhaps a warning, Gurriers summoned us to meet up with them and face the consequences from the very title of their debut album. A sharp and edgy debut that this Dublin band seemed to treat as a sculptural challenge: taking noise-rock as if it were a block of limestone, they set about it with blows and punches to deliver a final work that linked them to their compatriots Fontaines D.C. (especially when they were starting out in 2019 with Dogrel), Gilla Band and Just Mustard. Ben O’Neill, Mark MacCormack, Charlie McCarthy and Pierce Callaghan could have been just another Irish post-punk band, although in the richness of tempos and styles they displayed on Come and See, one could sense an ambition that follows no manuals or direct references.
Now they’re releasing Erasure, a single that certainly doesn’t live up to its name. Far from erasing anything, the Irish quartet seem to be drawing on the pulse and tension of Come and See to begin shaping what will be their second album.
