A god Apollo defying the Paral-lel, the work of the muralist Aryz for Art Meets Apolo

The large format pictorial artist Octavi Arrizabalaga, known as Aryz, presents the god Apollo in mural format painted directly on the main façade of Apolo. A work that forms part of the exhibition project Art Meets Apolo which has been going on for 10 days in the eyes of everyone passing in the street and will continue for at least a year.

It is a contemporary reinterpretation of the Greek god, symbol of the arts, music and creativity, values that are directly linked to Avinguda Paral-lel and to the hall itself. Aryz has represented him with a defiant and self-confident posture, a way of highlighting and highlighting the importance of culture in the city of Barcelona.

Having taken up graffiti in the early 2000s, the artist has developed part of his work in public spaces, both outdoors in cities such as Versailles, Tokyo, Rabat and Detroit, and in the interiors of the National Pantheon in Lisbon, the Basilica of Santa Maria del Pi in Barcelona and the Conservatorium aan Zee in Belgium, among others.

He has also worked in a studio to experiment with the possibilities of painting and its language outside the immediacy of the wall. The figure in Apollo is based on the fragmentation of the body, anatomy and the representation of movement, a continuation of the artistic work developed in recent years.

Art Meets Apolo is a multidisciplinary exhibition project that aims to unite clubbing and art through the eyes of different Barcelona artists. In the 2024 season, the project has incorporated the works of Milica Lukic, digitised by Misato Studio, Alba Rihe and Sejal Parekh.
